This week I am in Norcal through Wednesday, Ft. Worth Thursday - Saturday, and then back to San Diego.
(Monday, 25 June)
Real easy around PV in the AM because I couldn't sleep more. My dad saw my pained face as I went out and was like, "You know, you don't have to go running. You can just read a book or something". Am I burning out? It was pretty hard to go though, I'll admit it. And I ran really slow, but I wanted to get it out of the way early. Maybe that's a bad sign.
(Tuesday, 26 June)
Trails at Sea Ranch. Wow, it's pretty up here! Some "on" periods of 1-3 minutes, some hiking, and some longer sections (35 minutes) totaling about 85 minutes, so I think I ran about 10 miles in all. Legs a little tired. Gonna take it easy tomorrow. Other than that, just resting my brain and body. Wonderful break.
(Wednesday, 27 June)
Trails again. Tired from yesterday, so tried to take it easy but still somehow ended up running like 1o miles. How the frick does shit like that happen? I was out for 47 minutes and still hadn't turned around yet. Uhh... goddamn. Left quad majorly hurting by the end, probably just muscle soreness but still. 28 miles in 3 consecutive days? I need to take it REAL easy for the next few days. Don't do anything else stupid.
(Thursday, 28 June)
As I was about halfway through this run, the only thought that I could really focus on was "am I crazy?". I mean literally crazy, not like "daaawg, you so craaayzay" but like actually I might need to be institutionalized. Seriously, it is absolutely absurd to run here. It was hot, humid, and disgusting. I can believe people here are so nice. I just want to be like, "dude! you live in loco-land! you can't even go outside!" but they just smile and are all "chill out man, have a beer, and here's some fried steak, and wear this huge hat". So basically I ran like 4 miles really easy but still wished I was dead at the end. The only good news is that, even with the sitting in the plane and such, my left quad only feels slightly more sore than the right, and doesn't stab like Wednesday.
(Friday, 29 June)
So I went running this morning thinking that it would be better to get things taken care of early before I really knew what was going on. State of the legs continues to improve. But, I was so sweaty I thought I might drown. Literally, I just wanted to crawl into a hole. I passed a few sewage/storm drains with a little bit of water trickling and I was so out of it I actively considered jumping in. Day off will be pretty good for me I think. Then, 3.5 will be good on Sunday.
(Saturday, 30 June)
off; JGonz wedding and travel
(Sunday, 1 July)
Slept in and took it real easy around SB. It was hard to watch all the folks on bikes though, there was SO MANY of them and it looked like so much fun. I miss the days of last summer with Will and Ruby and Ian and especially the 'Gumster chillaxin' on the bikes every weekend. Legs continue to improve, but my left heel has been majorly chewed up and spat out by my wedding shoes.
-------------------------------------------------------------
total mileage: 39.5
(goal mileage: 40 miles)

I can't believe I remembered to stop my watch. Should've run faster.

This stretching/rolling routine may be worth a try:

You're doing great Katherine! I particularly enjoyed your Wednesday post.
careful on your mileage, don't clump it to much at any one end of the week. It sounds like 28 miles was a little swamping to you in 3 days. You should be aware of how your body feels and make sure you're not gonna wear yourself out by doing this
also... whats your total weekly mileage like, you should list it at either the top or bottom of each post to make my life easier, thanks dawg. Boom
Somehow, Mr. Kiesz, I think her posts acknowledges she has already gotten the "aware of how your body feels and make sure you're not gonna wear yourself out by doing this" part taken care of.
Kiesz -- If you want cold hard numbers you should check out my CFree-esque spreadsheet (link on the left). But I'll start adding in weekly mileage too.
