I can't believe I remembered to stop my watch. Should've run faster.

Week 3: Sundance

This week I fly with Gina to Utah to attend the Sundance Film Festival. Report on attempts to run in snow to follow.

(Monday, 21 January)
Ran easy Lorain loop plus two miles on track afterwards for ~8.5 miles. Feeling good, legs recovering well from this weekend I think. Nice to chat with Heather. I'm up to a mile and a quarter barefoot on the grass, but there's sure a lot of pokey things in the grass at the track.

(Tuesday, 22 January)
AM workout with Susan, Sedona, Masha. Man, we're seeming like a posse these days.

Warmup down Lombardy. Tempo (7.10 pace) Lombardy back to the health center (it's about 1.35 miles). Then, 400s on the track at 2.30, 2.30, 3, 3, 3.15. Times: 90/90/88/86/84/83. I was really relieved that the times were getting faster, because they felt increasingly like shit. I just tried to stay on Susan's back as best as I could and to relax my arms, and to get on my toes. My calves are going to be sore I think. Then, we did another 7 minutes of tempo (mostly a little downhill towards Lacy park).

The tempo before and after helped me practice being tired, and I think it made me nice and warmed up for the track stuff. I should plan on doing this more. Overall, surprised and relieved by the times and feeling pretty good.

(Wednesday, 23 January)
DNR. Wish I had gotten up early to go, but it was a really long day so maybe that would have been bad. Smooth sailing the whole way to Park City. Nice hostel. Pretty cold but I have lots of sweaters. Saw two movies; going to go out and run tomorrow.

(Thursday, 24 January)
Asked the front-desk guy where I should go running and got an amused recommendation to go to a walking/running/bike path that paralleled Park Ave. I was glad he didn't just laugh at me. It was actually plowed, which was good, and not too many icy patches. Ran a bit on Main after the path ran out, but got annoyed with that and went back the other way on the path. Ran about 40 minutes.

(Friday, 25 January)
Same deal as yesterday, but I stayed on the path this time and side streets. A little over 40 minutes. Today it wasn't plowed, so I felt a little like I was doing plyos or something; very high knees and exaggerated foot planting. Probably not good for me in the long run.

(Saturday, 26 January)
Didn't run, but probably as well I didn't because the snow yesterday made my right PF hurt a little like it sometimes does. We did go ice skating though, which was really fun. One of the folks working at the hostel asked me if I was "that jogging girl" to which I said "yes" but I was really thinking "I RUN, not JOG!". I couldn't tell if he was impressed or thought I was really stupid.

(Sunday, 27 January)
Travel back to Pasadena. Gina and I nearly got stranded b/c of bad weather in Las Vegas but thankfully made it onto a direct flight back to LAX. So, we had to go to LAX but actually ended up getting home before when we thought we would. Lazed around for a little bit after I got back, but eventually got my carcass going towards a run.

Ran to the track, then did 4x1600 where the 1600s were 1200 at 7.00 pace (5.11, 5.13, 5.15, 5.14 with the variation in times being mostly the first lap) and then a lap at 9.00 pace (2.15) so I ran continuously. Cooldown to Parkwood. Not too much, but enough to get my legs moving. It was freaking soaking wet on the track so I could feel my lower legs hurting a bit from the extra weight (possibly also from ice skating).
