I can't believe I remembered to stop my watch. Should've run faster.

Psychotrainer week!

(Monday, 21 July)

I rode the Powercranks trainer today twice, about 40 minutes in the morning and about 25 or 30 minutes in the evening. I think the key to keeping going for a longer time (like, more than 40 minutes) is variation. Variation in speed, resistance, hand position, and drills with each leg individually for rest. Next time I use it, I'm going to use my HR monitor just to see how things are doing. I'm also going to post pictures of this crazy mongrel bike at some point.

(Tuesday, 22 July)
Lorain with Susan, felt really good again this morning. I'm not too sore! So that's good. The more I think about it the Powercranks would be a great thing for the trainers. I may try and convince them. I lifted afterwards and I think my legs are stronger than before. Also, the flexibility is coming along, so I have to stay on that.

I haven't written about the trigger finger for the last few days, but it's not going well. I woke up in the night and the ring finger on my right hand had started to trigger pretty bad. I even moved the splint over to that hand. I don't get it, I haven't ridden my bike at all except to ride around town. Sure, I was working in the garage a fair amount the last few days, which might have something to do with the first finger (middle finger, left hand) not getting better, but a whole other finger going bad?! This is not cool. I'm going to go crazy on it today, ice them both, a lot, and take ibuprofen. Fuck this shit.

(Wednesday, 23 July)
Managed an hour and a half on the psychotrainer without going too crazy. I'm not sure how effective it was exactly, because after about 50 minutes, I was doing quite a bit of one-leg-at-a-time because I was getting tired. I think the best thing to keep me going on it is a really good radio program to listen to (talk radio) rather than music, because it seems much shorter time-wise when you're thinking about things. Although, the danger is spacing out and not going hard enough, so I'm not really sure how to avoid that.

(Thursday, 24 July)
Lower Arroyo plus a little bit with the whole gang! It was really fun. I'm feeling a little tired today though, I bet my legs are a little worn out from yesterday.

(Friday, 25 July)
Off. Two weeks since an off day and I hardly noticed!

(Saturday, 26 July)
Long run in the Arroyo. Biked down with a big gang (awesome!) to the baseball fields. Then I ran up with Susan to the river and across. We made a few shortcuts so it was a little less than it would have been, but it was still like 1o miles, which was totally sweet. I felt great afterwards and ate like 10 bagels.

We failed to run into Megumi on the run, but we did see Maddie from Oxy, although I don't think she knew who we were and she seemed pretty into her iPod. She was looking *really* gaunt and made me glad I was rolling 8.30s with a pregnant lady instead of worrying about how huge my legs might be. (Body dysmorphia, I know.) Actually, I think my legs are getting muscley, despite how much candy I've been snorking down. It makes me want to lift!

(Sunday, 27 July)
I had a fun ride up Chantry with Megumi and Peter and Ian until I realized that I was late for my date to see the X-files movie, which was a little stressful. I made it in time though, and the movie was fun, and I got a chance to work the tan lines. The finger still is about the same, and it kind of scared me on the downhills. I'm calling the doc tomorrow. But, all in all a very successful day.

It might be a good idea to think of the night splint as treating the symptoms and allowing relief, but be cautious about thinking about it as a solution. Looking back, The Sock was not a cure for my achilles and plantar fascia problems at all, it just made it a little more bearable throughout the day. I was deceived for far too long thinking that the splint was actually curing me. Not that you're really thinking that way, but just a warning.
