First day of school - NOT! Lower arroyo with Sam and Steph. It was pretty quick in the middle there, which was probably not a great idea, but it felt good to get rolling.

1.5 mile, 1 mile, 2x800. The 1.5mi went into lacy from oxford and monterey; the mile and 800s were all on the 800 loop. I ran with Stephanie for most of it, which was great: 10.17, 6.48, 3.13, 3.13. Great! I was really tired afterwards and my legs were like WTF?!

It was really, REALLY hot today, so we did Tu Madre for the shade. It was miserable. I think that it didn't feel so bad at first, and then by the time we got to SM I was absolutely dying. I think that maybe it just took that many miles for my body temp to get up, and then once it did I was crashing big time. I had been drinking a lot of water, but I still felt I was getting a dehydration headache, and my stomach felt shitty. When I got back to the gym, I put a wet towel on my neck and back, and I felt so much better.

I half ran and half held court over a 3k/2k/1k workout. I gave them 6 minutes and then 4 minutes rest, so they'd be pretty fresh. The 3k course was this and the 2k/1k was on the track. I ran 8.47/4.04 with Natalya before the rest of the gang got there. I thought it went pretty well.

Did an easy, extended Hillcrest including Arden & Del Mar. Susan came along (don't tell Grier!) and it was awesome to have her there. Good times! We met in the morning, which was one of the few times I can remember the team electing to do that. I guess times change!
(Saturday, 4 October)
2.5 Arroyo tempo loops. Drove the team out, which was totally worth it I think. Perfect weather; overcast and cool. 11.30/23.10/29.30 ish. Felt very relaxed. Just stuck to Sam and tried to keep her motivated. 7.20 pace feels pretty laid back these days. The gals seemed to get something out of it, and we had a nice breakfast afterwards too.

Went to a cyclocross race with the prestigious Team Bearclaw. Fun times! I had a really nice afternoon running around and spectating and checking out the bikes. It was really interesting how different it was from a road race. I don't think I have the goods to do it myself - not enough good bike handling unfortunately - but it was definitely better to watch than a road race. Exciting!
